02About

A home for unwanted primates

We are located in the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park area of South Wales. The sanctuary rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals, especially primates.

You will find chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, vervets, capuchins, macaques, tamarins and marmosets here.

Although we specialise in the care and protection of primates, we cannot stand by and see other animals in need of help. So you will also meet African savannah cats, meerkats, wolf dogs, horses, donkeys, pigs and others.

Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary is a true sanctuary, not a zoo. There is no breeding programme. We never import from the wild, and we never supply animals to other organisations. Our prime purpose is providing a good life for unwanted animals.

Meet the chimps

Each chimpanzee here came to us from a different background. Their stories are told honestly, never dramatised. Visit them on a walk-around or up close on a Meet & Greet.

In their words
The sanctuary holds a special place in my heart. Every animal is rescued and given the best life possible.
