Story

How Fergus came to Wales

Fergus was born on 28 February 1986 at Penscynor Wildlife Park. His mother Chico drowned in the moat in 1991 aged 20; his father Jeremy died in February 2009. He was rejected by his mother and hand-reared by keepers from two weeks old.

He arrived at the sanctuary on 21 February 1999 with his sister Suzi and brother Twmi. Their group was merged with Freddie, Ronnie and Nakima in April 2009.

Fergus is the acrobat of the group. He loves music, the television, and is nicknamed the ladies' man. He is also a tool-user — Graham the co-founder once watched him pick up a branch and a length of plastic pipe and set up a jousting match.

His vet history is short: an infected hand wound, and a neck abscess he stitched out himself with his teeth. Many visitors choose to adopt him.
