About

About the species

There are five recognised baboon species (Guinea, Hamadryus, Olive, Yellow and Chacma), plus the Kinda and Grey-Footed sub-species. They range from the Guinea baboon at around 50 cm and 4 kg up to the Chacma at 120 cm and 40 kg.

Our three baboon troops were rescued from Portugal, Ireland and Beirut. Emirates Airlines assisted in transporting many of them. Today they live in three separate troops, with the nine island baboons accessible on a Meet & Greet experience.

Baboons greet each other with a yawn that flashes their canines, and the white skin on their eyelids. It is a defensive display, not aggression.

Meet & Greet

Meet & Greet experiences are booked by phone, not online.

On the baboon Meet & Greet, you walk over the tunnel onto the island, help clean and hide food for the troop to forage, and spend 45 minutes with the head keeper.
